Adcorp Group Duties & Responsibilities Job Title: Registered Nurse - ICU & High Care Location: Private Hospital - Pretoria (Gauteng Province) Reporting To: Unit Manager / Nursing Manager Job Summary The Registered Nurse (ICU & High Care) is responsible for delivering safe, high-quality nursing care to critically ill patients within the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Care environments. The role requires advanced clinical judgment, comprehensive patient monitoring, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes in line with Mediclinic standards, values, and protocols. Key ResponsibilitiesPatient CareProvide holistic, evidence-based nursing care to critically ill and high-dependency patients.Continuously assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.Monitor and interpret vital signs and advanced monitoring equipment (e.g., ventilators, cardiac monitors).Administer medications, intravenous therapies, and blood products according to prescribed protocols.Respond promptly to emergencies, including cardiac arrest and deterioration in patient condition.Clinical Skills & ProceduresOperate and manage ICU-specific equipment such as ventilators, infusion pumps, and dialysis machines.Assist with invasive procedures (e.g., intubation, central line insertion).Ensure infection prevention and control practices are strictly followed.Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely patient records.Collaboration & CommunicationCollaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, including doctors, physiotherapists, and dieticians.Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing support, education, and updates.Participate in ward rounds and contribute to clinical decision-making processes.Quality & ComplianceAdhere to Mediclinic policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits.Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.Professional DevelopmentMaintain up-to-date knowledge of critical care nursing practices.Participate in in-service training, workshops, and continuous professional development (CPD).Mentor and support junior staff and student nurses where required.Minimum RequirementsEducationDiploma/Degree in General NursingRegistered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Registered NurseExperienceProven experience in ICU and/or High Care nursing environmentCompetence in managing critically ill patientsExperience in private hospital setting (advantageous)Skills & CompetenciesStrong clinical judgment and critical thinkingProficiency in ICU equipment and proceduresExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environmentAttention to detail and high level of accountabilityTeam collaboration and adaptabilityKey AttributesCompassionate and patient-centered approachHigh ethical standards and professionalismResilience and emotional stabilityCommitment to excellence in patient careWorking ConditionsShift work including nights, weekends, and public holidaysExposure to critically ill patients and high-stress situations
