Position: (1) Security and Life Safety Specialist, Finance, Facilities, and Fleet Division Start Date: To be determined Status: Permanent, Full Time Salary: $94,591 (starting) to $114,385 (at 30 months) Position Summary: This posting is for an existing vacancy. The Security and Life Safety Specialist is responsible for managing facility security operations and supporting compliance with fire life safety regulations. This role conducts audits, advises leadership on security and safety matters, develops procedures, manages contracts, delivers training, and liaises with external agencies. Key responsibilities include overseeing fire safety plans, participating in health and safety committees, and monitoring related expenditures. This position involves both mental and physical work in non-standard environments and requires specialized certifications including CPTED/CPP/PSP, JHSC, and Standard First Aid. Responsibilities: • Manage LPS Facilities Security operations; assist the Facilities Manager with overseeing LPS facility security, including physical door security checks, key and lock management, access control hardware for card systems, security cameras, alarm systems, PA and intercom systems, and facility signage and identification. • Support the Facilities Services Supervisor and the Facilities Manager with the management of LPS facility's fire life safety systems and ensure facilities are operating in compliance with the regulations of the Ontario Fire & Building Codes (OBC), PFC and NFPA. • Coordinate and conduct physical security audits of all LPS facilities ensuring legislative compliance. • Provide expert advice from a JHSC and fire safety programs perspective to senior leadership, staff, contractors, and regulatory agencies. • Prepare reports and recommendations for presentation and represent LPS at meetings and committees. • Review compliance with LPS procedures related to LPS building security, fire safety, panic alarms and Health & Safety. • Ensure compliance, training and testing is up to date with all Life-safety Personal Protective Equipment. • Develop new LPS procedures, SOPs, Protocols or required changes related to Facility security and Fire Life Safety. • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of security and fire safety trends, regulations, and best practices. • Manage contracted services, including background checks, SOPs, policies and LPS procedures. • Collaborate with LPS related resources including members of the Risk Management Unit and the Joint Health and Safety Committee. • Develop and support the delivery of training related to security and life-safety to LPS members and provide fire safety training to Fire Wardens and members as required. • Liaise with members of London Fire Services, the City of London and other related agencies to ensure legislative compliance regarding LPS Facility security and Fire Life Safety. • Oversee the Fire safety plan as pertains to each facility and related training, including fire drills. • Ensure best practices are applied to develop, implement, and monitor Fire Safety Programs. • Serve as a member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC), conduct risk assessments, and provide guidance related to LPS facility and personnel security. • Monitor and approve expenditures and invoices pertaining to security & fire life safety projects. • Other duties as assigned within the core competencies. Requirements: • 2-3year post-secondary education in Specialized courses or General University Courses (Security Management, Public Safety, Fire Protection, Fire Prevention) or related field from a Post Secondary institution or a Specialty College OR equivalent. • 5-7 years’ relevant experience in Facility and Security management /Public safety field. • Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED/CPD) and/or Certified Professional (CPP) or Physical Security Professional (PSP) Certification required. • Successful completion and maintenance of Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) Certification 1 and 2 is an asset. • Standard First Aid Certification is an asset. • Valid Class G Driver’s License is required. • Valid Canadian Fire Alarm Association Registered Fire Alarm Technician Certification and Blueprint reading is an asset. • Strong problem-solving skills and judgement required to make decisions from numerous/broader range of alternatives covered by standards and precedents for high-stakes situations. • Strong communication skills for regular contact with LPS members, contractors, regulatory agencies and the public to give, obtain, and/or exchange routine information or decisions requiring general discussion, and explanation to ensure understanding.
