A mining contractor in Randburg, Gauteng requires a Miner to assist with blasting operations in an open-pit mine. You will prepare blast holes, assist with charging explosives, ensure blast area safety clearances, and participate in post-blast inspections. A valid blasting certificate and strict safety adherence are essential. Responsibilities Ensure all mining activities comply with the Mine Health and Safety Act and the company's safety policies and procedures. Assist with blasting operations including transport, handling, and charging of explosives under certified supervision. Supervise mining crew activities to ensure production is carried out according to the mining plan within approved safety parameters. Operate mining equipment such as drill rigs, continuous miners, roof bolters, and loaders safely per operating procedures. Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses thoroughly, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions. Collect, log, and transport geological samples to the laboratory, maintaining chain of custody and following sampling protocols. Conduct daily workplace inspections before each shift to identify hazards and ensure the working area is safe. Requirements For geology roles, a bachelor's degree in geology or geoscience and experience with geological modelling and sampling software. For supervisory roles, a Mine Overseer's Certificate of Competency or Shift Boss Certificate from the relevant mining authority. A valid medical certificate of fitness confirming fitness to work in a mining environment including underground conditions. Physical fitness to work in demanding conditions including confined spaces, heights, and variable temperatures. For blasting roles, a valid blasting certificate and experience in handling and use of explosives in a mining environment. Qualifications Certificate in Mine Health and Safety (COMSOC or SAMTRAC)
