Summary Spire is seeking a Laborer in the Construction and Maintenance department. The C&M Laborer is responsible for a variety of tasks associated with installation, reinstallation or repair of mains and services. Majority of work is performed outside, in ditches, resulting in exposure to dust, dirt, dampness and weather conditions. Duties and Responsibilities Mixing and pouring concrete and broom finishing patches in street and making temporary repairs to pavement. Pulling out old services, including removing and disposing of old piping. Cutting and threading pipe. Cleaning tools and maintaining tools and general work around tool cart. Locates, repairs and services all curb cock, valve, and stop boxes. Irrigate trees, shrubbery or grass that may have been subject to leaking gas. May be required to replace same. Bottoms ditches, digs bell holes. Installs main and service piping. Properly grades main and service piping. Sets blocking. Paint service pipe and meter settings. Makes necessary repairs to foundation walls to the extent possible. Assists in loading and unloading supplies and materials from truck. Clean, oil, grease and make minor repairs on all pneumatic tools. Replace air hose and exchange various tool attachments when necessary including starting and operating compressor (does not include maintenance). Supplies information required on reports, time tickets, service and meter orders. Refinish asphalt patches in street. Resod and reseed lawns. Refill sunken ditches. Replace cement around basement service pipe entries to make them water proof. Performs carpentry work to a limited extent including setting forms for concrete. Clean machines after each operation and restore components to their respective storage boxes. Assist garage mechanics on minor repairs. Assist with tapping equipment in placing and align tapping machines properly and assemble tapping equipment with necessary attachments. Takes grade in preparation for boring after main is exposed, sets bore and assists in boring operation. Operation of directional bore locate box and rambore. Tests connections for leaks. Operate various air tools for excavation and backfilling including paving break. Operates air tools and equipment other than those requiring respirator protection for the purpose of preparing piping for repair or joining including scalers. Install bar holes. Operate CGI for purposed other than leak searches. Pump drips periodically in emergencies. Performs maintenance work involved in pipe corrosion protection operations such as applying green line, fiberglass, mastic, etc. Uses locate equipment to locate piping for internal purposes. All other duties as assigned. Required knowledge, skill and abilities Experience in construction, working with a variety of hand tools and heavy equipment is preferred Clear verbal and written communication skills Ability to work in outdoor weather environment and being exposed to all weather conditions Flexible to work at any Spire work site (St. Louis and surrounding areas) Basic computer skills including Microsoft Windows Experience working in an environment where safety protocols are enforced is preferred Physical demands, environment and schedule Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
