A mining house in Cape Town, Western Cape is hiring a Shift Boss for its safety department to promote a culture of zero harm. You will conduct risk assessments, facilitate safety training and inductions, investigate incidents, and ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act. Relevant safety qualifications and underground work willingness are required. Responsibilities Ensure all mining activities comply with the Mine Health and Safety Act and the company's safety policies and procedures. Collect, log, and transport geological samples to the laboratory, maintaining chain of custody and following sampling protocols. Operate mining equipment such as drill rigs, continuous miners, roof bolters, and loaders safely per operating procedures. Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly production and safety reports detailing achievements, incidents, and concerns. Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses thoroughly, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions. Requirements A valid medical certificate of fitness confirming fitness to work in a mining environment including underground conditions. A Grade 12 certificate is the minimum; a relevant mining qualification or blasting certificate is essential for technical roles. A commitment to safety and the ability to work according to strict procedures and protocols without taking shortcuts. Thorough knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act and relevant regulations governing mining operations in South Africa. For geology roles, a bachelor's degree in geology or geoscience and experience with geological modelling and sampling software. A minimum of three to five years of experience in the mining industry with specific experience in the relevant mining method. Qualifications Diploma in Mining or Mineral Resource Management
