Department: Police Salary: Commensurate with Experience/Education Description: Provides physical security for a university building. Pursuant to the State of Texas Executive Order No. GA-48, this position researches, works on, or has access to critical infrastructure and requires the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the University infrastructure. This position requires personnel be routinely reviewed to determine whether or not criminal history or continuous connections for the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the employee from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure. 1. Unlocks and locks doors and checks all floors for unsecured doors. 2. Monitors entry into the building and maintains sign-in/out log. 3. Monitors security cameras and radio traffic; alerts proper personnel of camera malfunctions. 4. Answers the telephone and greets visitors; provides information and directions. 5. Provides immediate contact with the university's police department in case of an emergency; prepares incident reports. 6. May accept parcel packages and deliver them to designated floors or staff. 7. May monitor and control entry into a gated parking lot. 8. Patrols assigned areas to check for criminal activity, rule violations, and irregularities. 9. Performs other job-related duties assigned. MQ: Requires a basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. as might normally be acquired through attainment of a high school diploma or GED. No experience is required. Requires a valid Texas Driver's License. Additional Job Posting Information: Requires a valid Texas Driver’s License. Must be able to work nights, weekends and overtime assignments. Must be proficient with using a computer and Microsoft office suite. Must pass a Criminal History and valid TX Driver’s License check prior to an interview. Must pass Background Investigation prior to employment. Must pass a pre-employment drug screening. UHPD requires all applicants to complete the criminal history fields on their application. Applicants with incomplete criminal history fields will not be considered for a position. Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability to work in a law enforcement setting and an office setting; restrain or subdue individuals; walk, stand, sit, or run for extended periods of time; occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; occasionally climb and balance; ability to operate and use specialized law enforcement tools and equipment. All positions at the University of Houston-System are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check.
