## Substation Ground Technician — Position Overview Substation Ground Technician is an entry level, non-exempt position involved in the construction, maintenance and repair of substation equipment/systems. The work often requires operating in confined spaces and in elevated work areas, and you will use various pieces of construction equipment specific to the trade. You may work independently or with others, and occasionally put in long hours during emergency conditions. This position works at various locations and may require travel to another state depending on customer demands. ### What the job includes You will work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair, testing, adjusting and troubleshooting of substation equipment/systems. This work includes, but is not limited to, tasks involving: - Concrete Foundations, ground grids, and steel erection - Buswork (High and Low Voltage) - Airbreak / Hookstick Switches - Control Cable - Terminations (High / Low Voltage) - Control Buildings - Conduit and duck banks - Capacitor bank installations 23kv- 230 kv - Transformers, regulators and circuit breakers - Circuit Switchers, motor-operated and manual switches You will also be responsible for maintaining Company vehicles, test equipment and tools in good working conditions. Much of the work frequently involves energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of yourself and others. ### Additional requirements and expectations You must be able to perform rigorous physical labor and be capable of climbing and working at heights up to 125 feet above ground. You must possess or be capable of obtaining a Commercial Drivers’ License within 6 months. Personal hand tools required for the work must be supplied by you, as well as safety toed work boots. You must be capable of lifting in excess of 50 lbs and able to work in confined spaces/areas. You should be able to work independently or with others and be capable of, or learning to operate, various types of heavy equipment, including: - Bucket, derrick and boom trucks - Backhoes, excavators and skid steer loaders - Articulating Man-lifts - Pressure Diggers - Trenchers - Track Crawler Loader/Backhoe - Rough Terrain Telescopic Forklifts Willingness to work over-time or long hours during emergency conditions and/or when requested is required; schedules can change frequently and with short notice. This position notes 90% Travel Required. You must be capable of following Company safety rules and policies and willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position. ### Physical demands and work environment While performing job duties you will regularly be required to talk or hear, frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to fingers, handle to feel, and reach with hands and arms. The work environment frequently exposes you to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration, and you will occasionally be exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites.
