Security Officer I Hawthorn Children’s Psychiatric Hospital 1901 Pennsylvania Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63133 Semi-Monthly Salary: $1,413.10 * Annual Salary: $33,914.40 Additional $2.00 per hour Shift Differential for Evening/Night Shift Scheduled Hours: 0800-1600 (rotating days off) Work Area: Facility Wide Hawthorn Children's Psychiatric Hospital provides specialized care for children and adolescents diagnosed with mental illness. We are looking for a Security Officer to ensure that our facility, including clients and staff, remain safe and undisturbed. Hawthorn Children’s Psychiatric Hospital uses the Sanctuary Model to guide our interactions with our teammates and the care we provide to our consumers in order to promote healing, safety, and nonviolence. This is accomplished by following the Foundation of Sanctuary – The Four Pillars of (1) Trauma Theory, (2) Seven Commitments, (3) S.E.L.F. (Safety, Emotion, Loss, and Future), (4) Sanctuary Tool Kit. Responsibilities Conduct regular rounds throughout the facility and/or grounds observing the demeanor of public, employees, residents or clientsTakes necessary action to ensure that proper conduct is followedInvestigates acts of vandalism or theft and works closely with law enforcement officials on investigations as neededPrepares reports of infractions of laws, regulations and/or rules that occur on the grounds or within the buildingReports questionable conduct of employees, residents, clients or the public to an immediate supervisor or other administratorResponse to routine questions and provides directions to the publicDirects and controls traffic at parking lots of public buildings/facilities. May include installing traffic signs around emergency areasAssists in implementing training programs involving security proceduresAssists in organizing and conducting searches when residents/clients walk away or escape. Also assisting with distressed residents/clientsTakes necessary action in removing unruly individuals or detaining them until proper authorities arriveDispatches facility vehicles; receives reports of difficulties with vehicles and arranges for repairs and also checks oil/gas to ensure readiness for the next useTransports staff, residents/clients and/or suspects as neededAssists other facility personnel in maintaining security and ensuring that necessary precautionary measures are taken for the protection of individuals and propertyConducts fire prevention inspections and responds to all fire alarmsPerforms work in accordance with established rules and regulations; receives supervision from a higher level Security Officer or other designated administrative supervisorPerforms other related work as assigned Eligibility Possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalencyOne or more years of experience as a Security Guard with the State of Missouri, or experience in military, civilian security, law enforcement or experience within an intermediate/maximum security mental health facility performing security functionsPossess a valid driver’s license Excellent State Of Missouri Benefit Package Including Affordable Health, Vision, Dental InsurancePaid Basic Life Insurance (amount equivalent to annual salary)Cafeteria PlanDeferred CompensationMOSERS Retirement (Members contribute 4% of pay, to MOSERS plan and 1% towards Deferred Compensation)13 paid holidays per year10 hours of annual leave accrued per month10 hours of sick leave accrued per month For questions contact the Human Resources Office at: [email protected] WHY DMH?
