Position: Protective Services Officer (PSO) The Mint is hiring a permanent full time Protective Service Officer who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment. Reporting to the Supervisor, Protective Services, the Protective Services Officer (PSOs) are the front line of security defense, ensuring the security and safety of the Mint’s staff, assets & facilities. Your Responsibilities: Proactively protect RCM assets (human life, physical & intellectual property and reputation) from internal and external human threats. The Royal Canadian Mint is part of Canada’s critical infrastructure and identified as a high priority site. Actively assess risk and threats to the RCM and mitigate them appropriately. Advise, direct, promote and enforce security policies and regulations Monitor all personnel leaving the RCM with the use of modern screening detection tools to prevent the removal of any unauthorized RCM assets. Provide Access Control and Screening Services for all persons and property accessing and leaving the RCM. Conduct behavior analysis of all personnel in and around RCM properties by actively looking at normal behaviors and actions to detect behavior that may indicate a threat or risk to the RCM, its people and assets. Provide inspection services of all high security product using judgement to approve or deny its removal from site based on risk analysis. Audit & enforcement of compliance with security controls. Identify, investigate and action security anomalies. Respond to any untoward incident or action within or directed at the RCM, staff or assets. This may require an armed intervention, utilizing use of force continuum established by the RCMP’s training unit for Police use of force and firearms. All Protective Services Officer will be trained at this level. Respond to incipient fires, explosions and chemical spills for both industrial accidents and hostile weaponization of on‑site chemicals as to prevent the loss of life of employees within the RCM as well as members of the public within the contamination zone. PSO’s will be trained as level 1 Hazmat technicians as per NFPA 472 to respond to toxic gas release incidences. Assume control of a security/safety related incident until relieved by a member of line management. Liaise and coordinate with outside law enforcement and first responders dispatched to RCM operations. Respond to medical emergencies as first responders. All PSO’s will be trained in standard first aid medical response and CPR Level C. Maintains Daily Activity/Dispatch logs Oversight of all RCM High Security and Precious Metals deliveries and pickups. PSO will use risk analysis, standard operating procedure and judgement to deem all shipments cleared to leave the RCM. Investigate and promptly compile detailed Incident Reports on all security occurrences. Identify and report all technical security deficiencies. Assist in managing records. Assist Protective Services management as required. Provide armed Protective details in public areas in various venues all over Canada to ensure safety of RCM employees and Protective of RCM assets. This opening is to be filled on a continuous operation. Qualifications: Proficiency in both official languages (English / French) is required at the time of hire. If no qualified candidate fully meets the required levels, other candidate language profiles may be considered in accordance with the Mint’s Staffing Policy. The linguistic profile for this position is: Education & Designation: Post‑secondary certificate or diploma in a related field, relevant experience will also be considered. Valid Standard First Aid and CPR certificate required. Valid firearms Possession & Acquisition Licence (PAL) for restricted and non‑restricted firearms is an asset. Experience: Experience identifying suspicious behaviour considered an asset. Experience working in a high‑security environment considered an asset. Experience working with HAZMAT or industrial firefighting considered a strong asset. Use of Force or Defensive Tactics experience considered an asset.
