Property Accountant

Macdonald & Company

If you’re based in Stellenbosch and are looking to grow your accounting career within a high-growth property investment business, this one’s for you. You’ll be joining a rapidly growing property investment and asset management business with an entrepreneurial culture and a reputation for doing things differently. This privately owned group has built a diverse portfolio spanning student accommodation, retail, office, industrial and specialised property assets, giving their finance team exposure to multiple asset classes across a dynamic portfolio. Known for its fast decision-making environment and ambitious growth trajectory, the business places strong emphasis on empowering talented professionals, creating real opportunities for learning, progression and meaningful impact. Working closely with an experienced leadership team, the finance function sits at the centre of the organisation’s strategic growth as the portfolio continues to expand. Within the Stellenbosch-based finance team, you’ll work closely with the Financial Manager in a hands-on environment where operational reporting, financial oversight and portfolio-level analysis all come together. The role involves supporting the preparation and review of management accounts, assisting with financial reporting across subsidiaries, preparing annual financial statements and ensuring tax and VAT compliance. You’ll also work on cashflow forecasting, management packs and reconciliation processes across multiple systems, while engaging with auditors and contributing to the financial integrity of a growing property portfolio. Exposure to acquisitions, disposals and portfolio movements means the role offers far more than traditional accounting - it’s a position where commercial awareness and strong analytical thinking are equally valued alongside technical financial skills. There are two distinct opportunities within this team. The Accountant position is suited to someone with around 2–3 years of relevant accounting experience, ideally with a BCom degree and exposure to audit, accounting practice or a similar finance environment. Candidates with strong Excel skills, attention to detail and the ability to work in a deadline-driven environment will thrive. The Senior Accountant role, on the other hand, is geared toward someone ready to take on greater responsibility - including reviewing the work of junior accountants, overseeing reconciliations, assisting with budgeting and tax planning, and managing complex financial reporting across the portfolio. Both roles report to the Financial Manager and require professionals who are analytical, highly accurate and comfortable operating within a fast-moving property investment environment. If you’re the kind of accountant who enjoys turning complex property numbers into clear financial insight, apply now.
