Description Role Overview Our client is seeking a Mid-Level Accountant / Bookkeeper to join their accounting practice based in Durban North. The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of clients and be responsible for bookkeeping, payroll, tax administration, and compliance functions while ensuring accuracy and meeting statutory deadlines. This role suits an organised individual who can work independently, manage multiple priorities, and maintain strong client relationships. Key Responsibilities Perform bank, debtor, and creditor reconciliations Prepare trial balances and assist with management accounts and AFS preparation Manage bookkeeping functions across multiple clients Process payroll and statutory submissions (EMP201, VAT, tax returns) Maintain SARS compliance, TCS, and profile updates Handle CIPC submissions and statutory administration Support client onboarding and practice administration processes Reconcile client payments against medical aid statements Requirements Matric and relevant qualification in Bookkeeping, Accounting, or Finance 2–4 years' bookkeeping/accounting experience Previous accounting practice experience advantageous Experience managing multiple clients and deadlines Technical Skills Sage and SimplePay experience SARS e@syFile and CIPC eServices knowledge Intermediate Excel and Microsoft Office proficiency Experience with cloud-based document management systems Advantageous Xero, QuickBooks, Pastel, or Draftworx experience Exposure to management accounts and AFS preparation Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, data cleaning) Personal Attributes Strong attention to detail and organisation Ability to work independently and manage deadlines Professional communication skills and high levels of confidentiality Strong initiative and ability to perform under pressure Additional Requirements Based in or around Durban North Comfortable with an 80–100% on-site working arrangement Valid driver's licence and reliable transport preferred Valid right to work in South Africa (SA Citizen or valid work permit) Clear criminal and credit record Contactable references Please note: Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete a practical skills assessment (covering Sage, Excel, SARS, and CIPC) as part of the interview process.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements
Matric and relevant qualification in Bookkeeping, Accounting, or Finance
2–4 years' bookkeeping/accounting experience
Previous accounting practice experience advantageous
Experience managing multiple clients and deadlines
Technical Skills
Sage and SimplePay experience
SARS e@syFile and CIPC eServices knowledge
Intermediate Excel and Microsoft Office proficiency
Experience with cloud-based document management systems
Advantageous
Xero, QuickBooks, Pastel, or Draftworx experience
Exposure to management accounts and AFS preparation
