Role Description This is a full-time on-site role for an Accountant at KHULA!, located in Bryanston, Johannesburg. The Accountant will oversee and manage financial records, prepare financial statements, monitor budgets, and provide financial analysis. Responsibilities include processing transactions, reconciling accounts, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and supporting audits. Additionally, the role involves maintaining accurate records and providing financial insights to aid in decision-making. Qualifications Education: Diploma or degree in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Finance, or a related field. Experience: 3 years plus of proven bookkeeping experience, particularly managing multi-entity accounts, with a preference for the agricultural sector. Technical Expertise: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. Xero, Draft Worx, or agricultural-specific software). Advanced Excel skills for data management and financial analysis. Demonstrated ability to compile AFS in compliance with IFRS Valid driver’s license (essential) Financial Management and Compliance Maintain Accurate Financial Records: Track income, expenses, and inventory for multiple farm entities. Accounts Payable and Receivable: Process invoices, payments, and monitor outstanding balances. Bank Reconciliation: Regularly reconcile bank accounts for all farm entities. Payroll Management: Administer payroll, ensure tax compliance, and manage employee benefits. Tax Preparation and Planning: Prepare tax returns, ensure compliance with agricultural tax laws, and optimize tax positions using subsidies and credits. Compliance Management: Stay updated on tax legislation and ensure all farm entities meet industry-specific regulations. Annual Financial Statements (AFS) Compilation Prepare AFS for each farm entity, including: Income Statements, Balance Sheets, and Cash Flow Statements. Notes to the Financial Statements. Ensure compliance with IFRS standards, incorporating agricultural accounting practices. Collaborate with auditors for external reviews, if required. Budgeting and Cost Analysis Develop Budgets: Create and monitor budgets tailored to each farm's operations. Cost Tracking: Analyse and track expenses, ensuring cost-efficiency across entities. Financial Insights: Provide tailored financial reports and insights to farm owners and managers for strategic decision-making Farmer Training and Support Initial Training: Educate farm managers on interpreting financial reports, understanding AFS, and applying accounting principles to daily operations. Budgeting Guidance: Assist in creating seasonal budgets and managing cash flows to adapt to farming cycles. Tax Compliance Education: Train farmers on tax laws, subsidies, and compliance regulations specific to agriculture. Follow-Up Support: Schedule regular check-ins to review financial performance, address operational adjustments, and offer refresher training on financial concepts. Customised Financial Reporting: Provide bespoke reports aligned with each farm's goals and metrics. Advisory and Strategy Development Strategic Planning: Support long-term financial planning, including investment strategies, expansion, and equipment financing. Workshops and Webinars: Conduct regular sessions to share updates on industry trends, financial best practices, and changes to tax laws. On-Call Financial Support: Provide timely assistance for urgent financial queries or issues. Provide guidance on other accountants on Financial Reporting Knowledge and Skills Strong understanding of agricultural cycles, products, and industry-specific financial regulations.
