Temporary Finance Officer Embassy of Ireland, Pretoria Our mission is to promote and protect abroad the values, interests and economic well-being of Ireland and its people. We do this under the political direction of our Ministers, through our staff at home and through our Embassy network abroad. The Embassy is seeking to recruit a resourceful, proactive and suitably qualified financial professional with relevant experience in a similar environment to fill the position of Temporary Finance Officer in the Embassy. Roles and Responsibilities: · Accounts system administration in consultation with the Head of Finance and HQ Finance; · Review expenditure against budget, ensuring value for money in all procurements of goods and services, and ensuring compliance with appropriate financial policies and procedures; · Manage and review supplier contracts, maintain and update the contract register, ensure proper filing of the contracts, and follow up on any supplier performance issues; · Liaise with service providers and ensure that all supplier accounts are paid in line with service level agreements; · Process payments, checking payment requisitions to ensure correct coding and posting them on the Sun system in compliance with the Financial Policy and procedure manual; · Perform accurate reconciliation of supplier statements and attend to supplier queries; · Keep an accurate record and reconciliation of consular revenue; · Manage the Embassy bank accounts by updating the recipients’ details on the Embassy’s online banking platform and check out for unusual flow of funds; · Prepare monthly bank reconciliation statements; · Ensure smooth running of the audit and follow up with the queries raised to ensure compliance; · Attend to queries raised by Embassy management, HQ Finance and Evaluation and Audit units; · Keep the asset registers up to date and ensure that acquisitions and disposals of assets comply with the financial policy and procedure manual; · Monitor expenditure on a regular and ongoing basis using the Q & A reports extracted from the Sun system; · Other duties as required from time to time and directed by the Head of Finance and senior management, as necessary, to ensure the smooth running of the Embassy. Essential Requirements candidates must be able to demonstrate: · Candidates must have a degree in a relevant discipline such as Accounting, Auditing, Taxation etc.; · A minimum of three years’ work experience in bookkeeping, accounting, online banking and value added tax; · Fully fluent in English; · Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and demonstrable experience in using a financial management system; · Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work well in a team, and handling external engagements; · Flexibility, efficiency and effectiveness showing strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to work under pressure and to manage multiple tasks; · The candidate should provide examples of being solutions-oriented and committed to delivering results; · All applicants must have a permanent legal right to reside and work in South Africa. Desirable Skills and Experience: · Previous experience in SUN financial management system is desirable, but not essential; · The successful applicant will work alongside other local employees of the Embassy, and will report directly to the Head of Finance in the Mission. Previous experience in a diplomatic mission is desirable, but not essential. Terms and Conditions of Employment: . Primary work location: Embassy of Ireland, Pretoria; · Expected Start Date: 1 July 2026; · The successful candidate will be employed on a temporary six month fixed term contract · The salary for the position is ZAR 293 624.37 per annum, pro rata, i.e. ZAR 22 586.49 per month which is Base Point of the relevant Salary Scale. · Benefit: Medical aid; · Annual leave entitlement is 21 days per annum, pro rata; The position will have leave allowances in accordance with the local labour law · Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week, with standard office hours from 08h00am to 16h30pm.
